About the Doctor

Dr. Scott Patterson graduated from the world's preeminent orthodontic program in 1981. While there, he had the benefit of training directly under the authors of the textbook used in 70% of all orthodontic residency programs worldwide. He was elected to membership in all three college and dental honor societies and was awarded a Pfeiffer Fellowship to the National Institutes of Health. During his three years there as an embryological researcher, he refined a new experimental technique and used it to discover one of the causes of cleft lip, the second most common birth defect. He has lectured at international conferences and at UNC on his research and on orthodontic clinical excellence.

Since he established his Monroe practice in 1981, Dr. Patterson has been dedicated to the community as a volunteer and philanthropist. Most notably, he has served 28 years as a Scout leader and has given thousands of hours as a sponsor and advisor to the Monroe High School technology team. At the request of some Freeport dentists, he opened an office in Freeport in 1993. The Patterson Orthodontics Scholarship program benefits up to 24 former patients each year and is available to graduates of all area high schools - public, private and home. For his years of service, Dr. Patterson was named Monroe's Distinguished Citizen of the Year in 1998.

Dr. Patterson married in 2003. His wife, Natasha, is an accomplished classical pianist and composer from Ukraine. With their son, Alex, they enjoy swimming, reading and bicycling.
